If you prioritize performance for activities like 3D rendering, machine learning, engineering tasks, or gaming, and don't mind a larger size and less battery life, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 with its powerful processor and graphics card is well-suited. However, if you seek a more budget-friendly option that offers better portability, longer battery life, and a touchscreen, but with lower performance capabilities, the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is a suitable choice for general use and handling less demanding tasks. The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is good for general use, while the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is only fair.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is very good for gaming and AI, while the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is poor.
The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is less suited for gaming and 3D applications because it uses a lower-tier integrated graphics processor and has a standard screen refresh rate, while the ASUS ROG Strix G17 is equipped with a high-end dedicated graphics card and offers a high refresh rate display, which are very important for smooth and detailed gaming and 3D graphics performance.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 is very good for engineering and design, while the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is poor.
The ASUS ROG Strix G17 outperforms the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 for engineering and design due to its superior CPU, double the RAM, and a more powerful GPU which are very important for intensive tasks, alongside a higher quality screen that benefits detailed work. However, the Aspire 3 Spin 14 has an advantage in portability and silent operation, factors that are somewhat important, but might not offset performance needs for demanding engineering software.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 offers satisfactory visibility and clarity due to its panel type, resolution, and brightness, though without standout features, making it suitable for everyday tasks. The ASUS ROG Strix G17 provides a sharper, brighter display that enhances user experience in routine and professional scenarios, including engineering and design, due to its wider color gamuts, ensuring more precise color reproduction. However, for gaming and 3D applications, both laptops fall short as they lack high refresh rates, leading to less fluid visuals in fast-paced scenes and less immersive three-dimensional experiences.

Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | November 2023
"The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is okay for school use. It feels reasonably well-built, and its compact design makes it easy to carry around. The battery lasts around seven hours of light use, so you only have to plug it in for a short time to get through a typical school day. The overall user experience is so-so; the display looks sharp but dim, and the touchpad is fairly responsive, albeit small."
"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
