The Acer Aspire 3 15 has a better screen than the Gateway 14.1" for general use, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
General use demands clear and vivid displays, and while both the Acer Aspire 3 and the Gateway 14.1" offer acceptable resolution and brightness for daily tasks, they may lack the premium panel types that provide better viewing angles and color reproduction. For engineering and design, accurate colors are crucial, and although these laptops are fine for casual work, they don't cover the wider color gamuts needed for professional-level color work. When it comes to gaming and 3D applications, high refresh rates are key for smooth visuals, and both models fall short, making them less suitable for fast-paced games or intensive 3D rendering.

The Acer Aspire 3 15, equipped with an AMD Radeon 610M GPU, offers fair performance for gaming and 3D applications, outpacing the Gateway 14.1" which has a less capable Intel UHD Graphics 600 GPU, thus performing poorly in these tasks. Despite both laptops having a similar screen refresh rate, the superior GPU in the Acer Aspire contributes significantly to its better gaming and 3D capabilities.

How the Acer Aspire 3 15 and the Gateway 14.1" compare to other laptops
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | March 2023
"The Acer Aspire 3 is okay for school use. It feels reasonably well-built, and it's easy to carry around. The display looks decently sharp and provides plenty of space for multitasking, but it doesn't get bright enough to combat glare. Its Intel Core i3-N305 CPU and integrated graphics can only handle simple tasks, like text processing, web browsing, and video playback, so it isn't ideal for students in more technical fields like 3D graphics. Unfortunately, the battery lasts only around six to seven hours of light use."
"The Gateway Ultra Slim 14" is surprisingly quiet with long battery life. The inexpensive Gateway excels at maximizing performance per dollar with lots of RAM and storage, super-quiet fan, and a long battery life. It can even house up to two M.2 SSDs which we weren't expecting from such a cheap system. However, the iffy reliability of the keyboard and USB-C port on our test unit means users should double-check for these potential issues immediately after purchasing."
