The Audio Technica ATH M20X offers superior overall sound quality and is better suited for listening to music and watching TV or videos. However, it falls short in the microphones category because it does not have one, making it less suitable for calls or gaming. Conversely, the JBL Quantum 100, while not matching the Audio Technica in sound quality, boasts an excellent microphone, making it ideal for gaming and clear conversations during calls or online meetings. The JBL is also less expensive, which could be an important factor if your budget is tight. Both headphones are wired, have a closed-back design for better noise isolation, and are not specifically optimized for exercise or travel due to their larger size and lack of folding capability. "Audio-Technica positively defies what you can expect for around $50. Ultimately, Audio-Technica did not design the ATH-M20x to go on the subway with you. It’s for the budget-conscious, do-it-yourself producer, podcaster, or studio that needs to buy tracking cans in bulk. If you don’t need the most deluxe, comfortable headphones, maybe you’ll like the ATH-M20x for its spartan functionality. The headphones are aimed at giving you the minimum requirements without it feeling like a sacrifice."
"I appreciate a functional piece of tech as much as I do gear on the bleeding edge, and the JBL Quantum 100 certainly falls in the former category. The sound is reasonably good, the built-in microphone is surprisingly reliable and it has a thoughtful design for the price. It lacks the convenience of Bluetooth, sure, but sometimes it’s nice not to have to worry about the finicky nature of wireless communication and go with good old hard-wired tech."
