If you watch a lot of movies and are looking for deep blacks and better contrast in a dim room, the Sony X90L with its full-array local dimming and VA panel might be preferable, albeit at a higher cost. Conversely, the Samsung Q80B, while less expensive, won't deliver as deep black levels due to its IPS panel, but offers wider viewing angles, making it a good choice for a bright room or if you often watch TV from different positions. Both TVs are well-suited for gaming with their 120Hz panels and support for 4k@120Hz, but for sports and action-packed content that benefits from high motion clarity, the Sony may offer a slight advantage with better motion handling features. Tom's guide

Matthew Murray | February 2023
"For most people its picture, sound, and price make it a midrange TV worth considering. HDR brightness was generally exceptional. Its viewing angles are shockingly good, among the very best we’ve seen recently from any non-OLED TV. For gamers input lag isn’t too shabby."

About Sony

Sony stands as a highly experienced and widely trusted TV manufacturer, earning a reputation that surpasses all others. Sony's high-end TVs are often regarded as the ultimate choice for videophiles, representing the epitome of quality, albeit at a premium price point. Renowned for their advanced and precise motion handling, as well as their cutting-edge local dimming algorithms, Sony consistently delivers unparalleled performance in these areas. They include Google TV software with all their TV sets, which grants access to the largest selection of apps available and they also include Bravia Core which is a movie streaming platform specifically for Sony TVs that offers higher picture quality by using more bandwidth.
