The LG UR9000 has a very low contrast and lacks proper local dimming, key features for deep blacks and rich picture quality in movies and cinematic TV, which compromises its performance in darker scenes. The LG UR9000 offers better viewing angles and handles reflections more efficiently, making it a better choice for sports in well-lit and wider living spaces, but its response time and motion processing are just passable, which could affect fast-paced sports clarity. In contrast, the Samsung CU8000 has superior motion processing and faster response time helping to minimize motion blur but falls short in reflections handling and viewing angles, potentially diminishing the viewing experience from side seats and in bright rooms. Gray uniformity is somewhat better on the Samsung, although it's marginally important compared to the other factors.

The LG UR9000 has a better response time for gaming but suffers from significant input lag, making it less than ideal for fast-paced gaming where timing is crucial. Conversely, the Samsung CU8000 has better input lag but poorer response time, leading to more motion blur during gaming, which can be distracting during dynamic scenes.

The LG UR9000 is considered poor for watching cartoons & animation due to its limited color gamut, leading to less vibrant cartoons, and while its colors out of the box are very good, this does not compensate for the overall color reproduction issues. Similarly, the Samsung CU8000 also falls short in animation viewing as its colors out of the box are just fair, not reaching the vibrancy and variety needed, despite a better color gamut compared to the LG, which doesn't ensure a full spectrum of colors for animated content.

The LG UR9000's performance watching news and TV programs is hampered by its poor colors out of the box and color gamut, ensuring a less vibrant experience, while the Samsung CU8000, despite slightly better color performance, lacks effective local dimming which impacts its contrast, resulting in subpar picture quality in such scenes. Both TVs have only fair SDR brightness and upscaling, which means they won't deliver the best clarity and brightness for standard definition content often found in news or talk shows.
