If having a great gaming experience is a priority, the TCL R655 stands out with its higher overall picture quality, particularly suited for gaming with faster response times and lower input lag. For watching sports or content with lots of fast motion it would also be a superior choice.
However, the Hisense U7H provides good performance too, especially for gaming, and represents a more budget-friendly option as it is often significantly less expensive.
Both TVs are similar in their ability to handle bright room conditions, but the TCL R655 has a slight edge in this regard. On the other hand, the Hisense U7H still offers excellent value for its lower price, especially if you're watching diverse content like movies, series, or animation, where it performs adequately. The TCL R655 (LCD) and Hisense U7H (LCD) are both good for movies & TV, though the TCL R655 (LCD) is somewhat better.
The Hisense U7H has commendable contrast and good local dimming, which are crucial for movie and TV show enthusiasts to enjoy deep blacks and vibrant colors, though it falls short in black uniformity compared to the TCL R655, which provides even better contrast and black uniformity, ensuring excellent dark scene reproduction. Both TVs are good choices for cinematic content; however, the TCL R655 slightly outperforms the Hisense U7H in these key areas, while the Hisense U7H has better color accuracy out of the box and wider color volume, lending to more vivid and accurate colors straight away.

How the Hisense U7H (LCD) and the TCL R655 (LCD) compare to other TVs
"We loved the Hisense U7H. It was able to deliver an excellent all-around image quality in its price range. The TV excels at controlling its backlighting in a way that ensures you’ll never experience blooming to a level of being distracting, something that I was a little surprised to see given the lack of Mini LED. The TV doesn’t just get decently bright it offers relatively accurate color reproduction for a TV in this price range. The TV is being billed excellent for gaming."
"It has an excellent Roku interface, isn’t too expensive, has quantum dots and mini LED backlighting, and looks genuinely fantastic playing everything. If you’re in the market for a new TV, you should still start here. Gamers will like that it has a 120-Hz refresh rate at 4K, which is the maximum that a modern Xbox or Playstation 5 will put out—meaning the smoothest possible gaming and sports viewing in general. We’re no longer in the days of having to spend over $1,000 and spending a few hours on setup for decent black levels and great color accuracy and HDR"

About Hisense
Hisense, a Chinese TV manufacturer, entered the US market in approximately 2011 and has since acquired TV divisions from various companies such as Toshiba, Sharp, Hitachi, and NEC. Currently ranking as the fourth largest vendor in terms of sales volume, Hisense aims to capture a wide range of TV budget segments. They offer exceptional value with TVs that often outperform their competitors at similar price points, making them a compelling choice for consumers. In the US, they use Google TV as their smart TV software which provides the largest app selection and a very modern user interface, however it is not as user friendly as the software from other vendors.
About TCL
TCL, the highly recognizable TV brand from China, has firmly established itself as the second-largest manufacturer in terms of sales volume. Renowned for striking an impressive balance between affordability, picture quality, and design, TCL TVs deliver a compelling overall package. While they have traditionally excelled in the low-end and midrange TV segments, TCL has recently made remarkable strides in the realm of high-end televisions, introducing impressive models that rival top competitors. Most TCL TVs use Roku software which is very user friendly and easy to use, but they have a few other models that use Google TV which has the largest app selection, but is not as user friendly as Roku.
