The MSI Modern 14 offers excellent value for general use, with a lower midrange price and solid performance for everyday tasks, thanks to its AMD Ryzen 5 processor and 16GB of RAM. It's also quite portable, with a thin and light design, making it a good choice for those who need to carry their laptop around frequently. The battery life is decent, and the keyboard is comfortable for typing. However, its gaming and engineering capabilities are limited due to the integrated Vega 7 graphics. The screen, while not touch-enabled, has a Full HD resolution and good color accuracy, suitable for general use but not ideal for color-critical work or fast-motion content.
On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge 14 is a premium device with a midrange price that leans towards the higher end. It boasts an OLED display with a high resolution and excellent color reproduction, making it fantastic for media consumption, content creation, and tasks that benefit from a vibrant and accurate screen. The inclusion of a touchscreen and a 2-in-1 form factor adds versatility, allowing for tablet use. The Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor and Adreno 750 graphics provide good performance for general use and can handle some gaming and light engineering tasks. Its battery life is impressive, lasting up to 10 hours of typical usage, and it's highly portable due to its slim design. However, it has fewer USB-C ports and lacks Thunderbolt connectivity, which might be a drawback for some users. The build quality is excellent, and it comes with additional security features like facial recognition.
In summary, if you prioritize a superior display, touchscreen functionality, longer battery life, and a versatile 2-in-1 design within a midrange price, the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge 14 is the way to go. It's also more suitable for light gaming and creative work. However, if you're looking for better connectivity options, a more traditional laptop experience, and a more budget-friendly option without sacrificing general performance, the MSI Modern 14 is a strong contender. How the MSI Modern 14 and the Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge 14 compare to other laptops
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | October 2023
"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
