If you're looking for a laptop with better graphics capability and a high refresh rate screen for gaming or 3D work, the Lenovo LOQ 16 is a strong choice; however, you should note that it's heavier and has a larger form factor which affects portability. On the other hand, the MSI Modern 14 is more budget-friendly, lighter, and easier to carry, making it suitable for everyday tasks and mobile use. The MSI also has a longer battery life which may be important if you need to work on the go, but it won't perform as well as the Lenovo in demanding tasks due to its integrated graphics. The Lenovo LOQ 16 is good for engineering and design, while the MSI Modern 14 is only fair.
The Lenovo LOQ 16 is equipped with a higher-end CPU, a dedicated Nvidia RTX GPU, and a screen with better color coverage and brightness, making it very good for demanding engineering and design tasks that require fast processing and accurate color representation. On the other hand, the MSI Modern 14, while lightweight and highly portable, has a less powerful integrated GPU and lower color coverage, making it fair for such tasks but may lack the performance and screen quality needed for more intensive work.

The Lenovo LOQ 16 has a better screen than the MSI Modern 14 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The Lenovo LOQ 16 has a screen offering high resolution and brightness, which results in clear and vibrant images for general use and detailed visuals important for engineering and design tasks, but its lower refresh rate makes fast-paced scenes in gaming and 3D applications less fluid. The MSI Modern 14 provides acceptable resolution and brightness, making it adequate for everyday tasks and casual design work; however, it does not stand out in any particular area. Neither laptop offers the high color accuracy expected by professional designers nor the high refresh rates sought by gamers, limiting their effectiveness for specialized work in those fields.

How the Lenovo LOQ 16 and the MSI Modern 14 compare to other laptops
"Gaming laptops with an RTX 4060 are available starting from about 1,000 Euros (~$1,060), even in 16-inch format. For the supposedly affordable Lenovo LOQ 16 (1,500 Euros, ~$1,591), the manufacturer particularly saves in the equipment and materials compared to the more expensive Legion series. In addition, the LOQ is slightly heavier and more bulky. What remains is anything but a laptop full of difficult compromises. Instead, this is a more than solid gaming laptop that focusses on the 3D performance.Q is slightly heavier and more bulky."
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | October 2023
"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
