If performance and gaming capabilities are important to you, the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro would be the better choice because it has a powerful dedicated Nvidia graphics card, a high refresh-rate screen, and features like hardware ray tracing and DLSS. However, this laptop is heavier and has a shorter battery life, making it less portable. On the other hand, the MSI Modern 14 is more budget-friendly, lighter, and offers a longer battery life, making it better for general use and portability. But its integrated graphics are not suitable for intensive 3D applications, machine learning, or gaming. Give Feedback

The Lenovo Legion Pro 5i is very good for engineering and design, while the MSI Modern 14 is only fair.
The Lenovo Legion 5i Pro excels in engineering and design due to its high-performance CPU and GPU, making it ideal for handling demanding tasks, alongside generous RAM and a high-resolution screen with good color accuracy, all of which are very important for such use cases. The MSI Modern 14, while also having a good amount of RAM and a decent screen, falls short with a less powerful CPU and integrated graphics, making it less suitable for intensive engineering tasks, even though it offers better portability and similar keyboard quality.

The Lenovo Legion Pro 5i has a better screen than the MSI Modern 14 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
For general use, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i offers a high-resolution display and brightness, making it ideal for browsing, video streaming, and document work. In contrast, the MSI Modern 14, while sufficient for everyday tasks, may not provide the same level of clarity and vibrant display as the Lenovo. When it comes to engineering and design, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i excels with superior color accuracy and a wider color gamut, which are crucial for precision work, whereas the MSI Modern 14 offers adequate but less impressive color fidelity. However, for 3D and gaming, the lower refresh rate on the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i could lead to less fluid motion compared to laptops designed for high-refresh-rate gaming, although the MSI Modern 14 also falls short in this aspect, prioritizing other features over gaming performance.

How the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i and the MSI Modern 14 compare to other laptops
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | October 2023
"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
