The Lenovo Legion Pro 5i offers superior performance for gaming, 3D rendering, and machine learning tasks with its more powerful Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU and Intel i7-13700HX processor, making it a better choice for intensive engineering work. It also has a higher resolution display with better color accuracy, which is beneficial for detailed visual tasks. However, this performance comes at the cost of portability, as it's heavier and has a shorter battery life compared to the LOQ 16i. On the other hand, the Lenovo LOQ 16i is more budget-friendly and offers better battery life, making it a more practical option for general use and everyday tasks. It's also slightly lighter and thinner, enhancing its portability. While its performance is less powerful than the Pro 5i, it still handles general computing and light gaming well with its Nvidia RTX 4050 and Intel i7-13620H processor. The display, while not as high-resolution, is still of good quality for general use. In summary, choose the Legion Pro 5i for top-tier performance and a superior display at the expense of battery life and portability, or opt for the LOQ 16i if you prioritize battery life, portability, and value for money for general use. PCMag

Brian Westover | August 2023
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."

NotebookCheck

Christian Hintze | September 2023
"Gaming laptops with an RTX 4060 are available starting from about 1,000 Euros (~$1,060), even in 16-inch format. For the supposedly affordable Lenovo LOQ 16 (1,500 Euros, ~$1,591), the manufacturer particularly saves in the equipment and materials compared to the more expensive Legion series. In addition, the LOQ is slightly heavier and more bulky. What remains is anything but a laptop full of difficult compromises. Instead, this is a more than solid gaming laptop that focusses on the 3D performance.Q is slightly heavier and more bulky."
