For a balance of performance and portability with a focus on gaming and engineering tasks, the Lenovo Legion 5 15" is a strong choice with its dedicated Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU and higher refresh rate screen, making it suitable for intensive gaming and demanding engineering software. However, it's heavier and has a shorter battery life, which might not be ideal if you need to work on the go for extended periods.
On the other hand, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 15" offers a more portable and premium business experience with a touchscreen, excellent build quality, and longer battery life, making it ideal for general use and business professionals who value a lightweight design and a responsive, high-resolution display. Its Intel Arc GPU is less powerful than the Legion's RTX 4060, so it's not as suited for high-end gaming or intensive 3D tasks, but it's still capable for moderate gaming and creative work.
Consider the Legion 5 for its superior gaming and engineering capabilities if you're less concerned about weight and battery life. Choose the Surface Laptop 6 for its portability, business-oriented features, and all-day battery life, with the understanding that it may not handle the most demanding games or engineering applications as well as the Legion 5. How the Lenovo Legion 5 15" and the Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 15" compare to other laptops
"The Lenovo Legion 5 15 is an affordable gaming laptop with a lot of power. The new AMD processor Ryzen 7 5800H offers plenty of performance and it is also very efficient. The combination with the fast 130W version of the GeForce RTX 3060 ensures high gaming performance. We also like the fast 165 Hz display with the 1080p resolution. The automatic graphics switching causes some problems with stutters, which are very annoying. If you do not need long battery runtimes, you should definitely deactivate the hybrid graphics mode in Lenovo's Vantage app. The Legion 5 15 is never silent."
