If you prioritize performance for tasks like 3D rendering, machine learning, or gaming and are prepared to invest more, the MSI GP66 Leopard would be beneficial despite being heavier and offering shorter battery life. In contrast, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is considerably less expensive and offers better portability along with longer battery life, but it has more modest performance and may not be suitable for intensive tasks or gaming. The choice depends on whether your focus is on high performance and you're okay with a higher price and less portability, or on everyday use with the need for better battery life and a more budget-friendly option. The MSI GP66 Leopard is good for gaming and AI, while the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is poor.
The MSI GP66 Leopard offers better gaming and 3D performance due to its superior Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU and a screen with a higher refresh rate, which allows for smoother visuals, especially in fast-paced games. Conversely, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, with its AMD Ryzen 3 7330U Vega 6 GPU and lower screen refresh rate, provides a more modest gaming experience suitable for less demanding titles.

The MSI GP66 Leopard is good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is only fair.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, with a basic AMD Ryzen CPU and integrated Vega 6 graphics, is adequate for engineering and design, yet falls short compared to the MSI GP66 Leopard, which boasts a higher-end Intel i7 CPU and a powerful Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU suitable for more demanding tasks. Moreover, with twice the RAM of the IdeaPad and a superior screen that refreshes faster and offers better color coverage, the MSI is more suited for intensive engineering work, though it is less portable and noisier under load.

The MSI GP66 Leopard has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, and software development.
For general use, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 offers an acceptable level of brightness and resolution for everyday tasks, but the MSI GP66 Leopard's higher panel quality provides a clearer and potentially more vibrant display experience. When considering engineering and design, the MSI GP66 Leopard stands out with its wider color gamuts ensuring more accurate color representation, which is essential for professionals, while the IdeaPad's more limited color range might not meet high design standards. For gaming and 3D applications, the MSI's lower refresh rate falls short for those seeking smooth motion handling, whereas high refresh rates are less critical for Lenovo's target audience focused on general use and productivity.

How the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 and the MSI GP66 Leopard compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | May 2023
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is decent for use as a workstation. Its Intel CPU and integrated graphics can only handle light productivity tasks, not demanding workloads like video editing or 3D graphics. You also can't do any color-critical work because the available displays have a narrow color gamut. It has a good port selection, but its USB-C lacks Thunderbolt 4 support. On the upside, it has a comfortable keyboard and doesn't get hot or loud under load."
"The MSI GP66 Leopard is a good budget high-performance gamer. The MSI also does a lot right outside of the pure performance despite it's low price. For example, the adaptive cooling system really surprised us positively, even in Extreme Performance Mode. And the display is not a budget panel either, but at least outshines the competition in terms of brightness. Of course, you also have to accept a few compromises in this price category. These include the Leopard's poor battery runtimes and the less than optimal build quality, which is also noticeable in the more complicated maintenance."
