For a balance of performance and value, the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 is a solid choice, offering a capable AMD Ryzen 7 processor and Nvidia RTX 2050 graphics within a lower midrange price point. It's a great option for general use and light gaming, with a decent battery life and good portability. However, if you're looking for a more powerful machine for intensive tasks like gaming, 3D rendering, or machine learning, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) is the way to go. It comes with a high-performance Intel i7-14700HX and Nvidia RTX 4070 graphics, a larger and higher resolution display, and better color accuracy, which is ideal for engineering tasks and high-refresh-rate gaming. Keep in mind, the Legion Pro 5i is pricier and less portable due to its larger size and shorter battery life, but it's built for performance and durability, making it a worthwhile investment if those factors align with your needs. How the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 and the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) compare to other laptops
"The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 is one of the most powerful RTX 3050 Ti laptops. If you disregard the mediocre quality of the case in terms of the material and workmanship, Lenovo has created a successful budget gaming laptop with the IdeaPad Gaming. Thanks to high TDPs and constant performance development, the Core i5-12500H and GeForce RTX 3050 Ti are able to show their full power, while in contrast, the (mostly slower) competitors deliver a better battery life. However, hardly any of the alternative laptops are able to reach the image quality of the Gaming 3. Most of the competitors are left behind in terms of the color space and brightness."
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
