The MSI Pulse GL66 is good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15" is only fair.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 has an AMD Ryzen 7 processor with integrated Vega 8 graphics and 8GB of RAM, which are suitable for many engineering tasks, but its performance may be limited for more demanding design applications, whereas the MSI Pulse GL66 is equipped with a more powerful Intel i7 processor, twice the RAM at 16GB, and a superior Nvidia RTX 3070 GPU, offering better handling of intensive engineering and graphics tasks. While both laptops have good screen quality with IPS panels and similar resolution, the higher GPU capability and additional RAM in the MSI GL66 result in a more robust experience for engineering and design use, but it's also slightly heavier and thicker, which might affect portability compared to the lighter Lenovo IdeaPad 5.

For general use, both the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15" and MSI Pulse GL66 offer satisfactory visuals with enough resolution and brightness, making them suitable for everyday tasks like browsing and video streaming. However, their color gamut coverage may not be extensive enough for professional engineering and design work, which requires more accurate color reproduction for precise projects. When it comes to gaming and 3D applications, their lower refresh rates could lead to less fluid motion, which is critical for a smooth and immersive experience in fast-paced games and interactive 3D environments.

How the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15" and the MSI Pulse GL66 compare to other laptops
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 is convincing due to its long battery life. The device scores points especially with its large battery and long battery runtimes combined with its low consumption. The CPU and GPU perform in the test as one would expect, and in line with what was familiar from the somewhat smaller 14-inch sister model, the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14."
"The MSI Pulse GL66 has a lot of potential for improvement. Although the RTX 3060 is only able to use 105 watts, we still liked the gaming performance, particularly since this also makes the Pulse comfortably efficient but not slow by any means. Neither the dark display with its lame response times, nor USB 2.0 or the lack of Thunderbolt will please real gamers. The use of a sticker factory seal, which is at least questionable, also won't inspire any enthusiasm. It is obvious that the laptop is really designed for price-conscious gamers."
