Selecting a laptop requires considering your specific needs and priorities. If you're looking for a laptop mainly for basic tasks like web browsing, document editing, and media consumption, and you're on a tight budget, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" could be adequate while saving you money. However, if you expect to perform more demanding activities, such as photo or video editing, gaming, or multitasking with many applications, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7i Pro offers significantly better performance which can justify its higher price. The Slim 7i Pro also typically provides a higher quality display and build, which can enhance your overall user experience. On the other hand, the IdeaPad 1's lower cost comes with tradeoffs like slower performance and a potentially less impressive screen. Consider also the importance of battery life and portability to your daily use; a more powerful laptop like the Slim 7i Pro may have shorter battery life and be heavier than a more basic model like the IdeaPad 1. The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7i Pro is good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" is poor.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" is less suitable for engineering and design due to its basic Intel Celeron processor, modest RAM, and an integrated GPU which fall short for demanding software, along with a lower-resolution TN screen that lacks the detail and color accuracy needed for precise work. In contrast, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7i Pro offers a more powerful Intel i5 processor, substantial RAM, a better integrated GPU, and a higher-resolution IPS screen with wider color coverage, making it more adept for resource-intensive engineering tasks and design work.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7i Pro has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 14" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the Slim 7i Pro offers a high-resolution display with bright, clear visuals, making it superior to the IdeaPad 1, which has a lower resolution and dimmer screen that can strain the eyes. The Slim 7i Pro includes broader color coverage, vital for engineering and design professionals requiring accurate colors for their work, whereas the IdeaPad 1's color range is more limited. However, for gaming and 3D applications, the IdeaPad 1 and Slim 7i Pro may fall short due to their lower refresh rates, which can lead to less fluid motion compared to laptops designed specifically for these purposes.

"The IdeaPad 1 14 is a simple machine, but it’s well-designed and has nearly everything you’d expect from a no-nonsense laptop that allows you to check emails and get schoolwork or other light tasks done with relative ease. A "true" 128GB SSD (as opposed to an eMMC drive) and a roomy 14-inch full HD display are arguably the star attractions, with the comfortable keyboard and reasonably modern styling playing important backup roles."
"The main selling point of the IdeaPad Slim 7i Pro versus a regular IdeaPad Slim 7 is its faster Core H-series CPU. In reality, the Core i7-11370H is only marginally faster than the U-series Core i7-1165G7 to the point where most users are not likely to notice the benefits. The slight performance uptick comes at the cost of slightly higher power consumption as well meaning owners will have to deal with potentially warmer temperatures or louder fans to compensate. Unless if you happen to be a power user, then the regular non-Pro model will be more than enough. Once you go 90 Hz, you can't go back."
