The HP Victus 15 is more wallet-friendly and offers good performance for general use, but if you're looking for superior computing and graphical performance, particularly for intensive engineering tasks, 3D work, machine learning, or gaming, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 would serve you better despite its higher cost. Additionally, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 boasts a higher resolution screen with a flexible hinge that enables tablet-like use, making it more versatile for creative professionals. In terms of portability, the Surface is lighter and thinner; however, the HP Victus 15 has a larger screen, which might be preferable for productivity and entertainment. When considering battery life, both should offer reasonable durations, but actual performance will depend on usage patterns. Choose the HP Victus 15 if budget and screen size are your primary concerns, but opt for the Surface Laptop Studio 2 if you require more power, better screen quality, and a 2-in-1 form factor. The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 is very good for engineering and design, while the HP Victus 15 is only fair.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 outperforms the HP Victus 15 in engineering and design use largely because it has a more powerful CPU, significantly more RAM, and a superior GPU, along with a higher resolution touchscreen, which offers better screen quality. While the HP Victus 15 still holds its ground with a capable CPU and a decent GPU, its lower RAM and non-touchscreen with a standard resolution make it less optimal for the most demanding tasks but potentially more affordable and suitable for less intensive uses.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 has a better screen than the HP Victus 15 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The HP Victus 15, with its good resolution and brightness, provides a satisfactory visual experience for everyday tasks but lacks the color accuracy that engineers and designers need; its low refresh rate isn't ideal for smooth gameplay or 3D modeling. The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 excels in resolution and brightness, offering excellent visuals for general use and has the color gamut coverage essential for professional engineering and design work, yet its lower refresh rate limits its capability for gaming and 3D applications. Lastly, gamers and 3D artists typically look for high refresh rates for fluid motion, which neither laptop prioritizes, hence their poor screen quality for these uses.

Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | March 2023
"The HP Victus 15 is great for gaming. It's available with Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and NVIDIA discrete graphics, which are powerful enough to provide a smooth gaming experience in demanding AAA titles at 1080p. It has a nice keyboard and a fast SSD, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet connectivity for low-latency online gaming. Unfortunately, its 144Hz display has a slow response time causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate to reduce screen tearing."
"The new Surface Laptop Studio with its foldable display is supposed to replace the old Surface Book and the overall impression is good after our review. The build quality and the materials are top-notch, the performance utilization of the two components is solid and the device does not show any major flaws in terms of display or speakers, either. The folding mechanism leaves a sold impression as well, but it remains to be seen how it will hold up over the years. The so-called presentation mode is also not ideal since it covers the whole keyboard."
