The HP Victus 15, being significantly less expensive, may offer a strong value proposition if your primary concerns are budget and general use, but tradeoffs include potentially lesser build quality and lower performance for more intensive tasks. The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio, on the other hand, is a premium device offering higher performance, better display, and unique features like a flexible hinge for drawing or viewing, making it more suitable for creative professionals or those requiring a more powerful machine for tasks such as 3D work, machine learning, or gaming. However, this comes with a higher price tag and potentially less value if you do not need these advanced capabilities. If portability and premium feel are important and you are willing to invest more, then the Surface Laptop Studio may be the better choice, whereas for everyday tasks and tighter budgets, the HP Victus 15 would suffice. The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio is good for engineering and design, while the HP Victus 15 is only fair.
The HP Victus 15 is equipped for engineering and design with a dedicated GPU and a large, high-refresh-rate screen, but with less RAM and a less powerful CPU compared to its counterpart. In contrast, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio offers a higher resolution touchscreen with greater color accuracy, more RAM, and a more robust CPU, making it better suited for detail-oriented tasks, yet it is lighter and thus more portable.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio has a better screen than the HP Victus 15 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The HP Victus 15 will suffice for general activities with its adequate resolution and brightness, but its color gamut may not be wide enough for detailed engineering work, and its lower refresh rate limits the smoothness needed for high-end gaming and 3D applications. On the other hand, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio boasts a high-resolution display and superior brightness and a wide color gamut, making it ideal for engineering and design tasks that demand color accuracy. However, despite its crisp image quality, the Studio's less-than-optimal refresh rate means it won’t deliver the ultra-smooth visuals desired by gamers and professionals working with 3D modeling and animation.

How the HP Victus 15 and the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | March 2023
"The HP Victus 15 is great for gaming. It's available with Intel 12th Gen. CPUs and NVIDIA discrete graphics, which are powerful enough to provide a smooth gaming experience in demanding AAA titles at 1080p. It has a nice keyboard and a fast SSD, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet connectivity for low-latency online gaming. Unfortunately, its 144Hz display has a slow response time causing noticeable ghosting, and it doesn't support variable refresh rate to reduce screen tearing."
"There’s no doubt that the Surface Laptop Studio is groundbreaking. We’ve come to expect such things from the Surface lineup, so it’s always nice to see a product that exceeds our expectations. The pull-forward laptop-screen concept has been tried before, but never in a device that’s so stylish and packed with innovative features like a haptic touchpad and robust digital stylus support."
