Choosing between the HP Omen 17 and the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro involves considering performance for intensive tasks, storage capacity, and portability. The HP Omen 17 has a stronger graphics card, which gives it an edge for heavy 3D rendering, machine learning, or gaming. However, the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro, while slightly less powerful, is lighter and potentially a better choice if you prioritize portability. Both have high-quality displays, suitable for general use and engineering, with the Lenovo offering slightly better screen color accuracy. The HP provides more storage but comes at a somewhat higher price. If portability and cost savings are your goals, the Lenovo might be the preferred option, whereas for top-tier performance in gaming or intensive engineering applications, the HP Omen 17 is superior. NotebookCheck

Marc Herter | September 2022
"The HP Omen 17 (2022) gaming laptop has a stylish case and hardware with lots of potential. The HP Omen 17 is a fairly unobtrusive gaming laptop. A material combination of plastic and metal gives the case a high stability and a quality surface feel. The unspectacular design is pleasing and is hardly indicative of the laptop's high performance potential. The Intel Core i7-12700H in particular is able to perform well once again. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is also strong in the gaming notebook. Demanding games run smoothly in Full HD resolution. The HP Omen 17 is a good gaming laptop that delivers partly excellent performance. But even at this performance level, cheaper alternatives are available."

PCMag

Brian Westover | August 2023
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
