If you value performance for intensive tasks such as engineering or 3D work, the HP EliteBook 845 G9 offers better specs with a powerful AMD Ryzen processor, more memory, better screen resolution, and generally robust build quality suitable for professional work environments. On the other hand, if you're looking for a more budget-friendly option for general use such as web browsing, document editing, or less demanding applications, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15" would suffice with an Intel i3 processor and acceptable performance for everyday tasks. However, it has a lower quality display and less memory, which could limit its use for multitasking and more demanding workloads. The HP also comes with a higher resolution and more enterprise-focused features, likely contributing to its higher price, while the Lenovo trades these off for affordability and basic functionality. The HP EliteBook 845 G9 is good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15" is poor.
The HP EliteBook 845 G9, with its superior AMD Ryzen processor, higher RAM capacity, and dedicated Radeon graphics, alongside a higher-quality IPS screen, is better suited for demanding engineering and design tasks compared to the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 which has a lower-tier Intel processor, less RAM, integrated graphics, and a lower-resolution TN screen. Additionally, the EliteBook's superior build quality and thermal management enhance its engineering performance, while the IdeaPad places higher emphasis on portability and less on performance due to its lower price.

The HP EliteBook 845 G9 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The HP EliteBook 845 G9 offers superior resolution and brightness, along with a high-quality panel type suitable for general use and detailed engineering tasks where color accuracy is critical. However, it lacks a high refresh rate, diminishing the quality for fast-paced gaming and 3D applications. The Lenovo IdeaPad 3's lower resolution, brightness, and limited color gamut lead to a lackluster display for both everyday tasks and professional design work, and its standard refresh rate is not ideal for gaming or 3D content where visuals play a significant role.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers HP EliteBook 845 G9 to be only fair for gaming and AI, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15" is poor.
The HP EliteBook 845 G9 offers fair gaming and 3D capabilities mainly due to its AMD Radeon 660M GPU and a higher-quality IPS screen, whereas the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15" has poor performance in those areas because it relies on the less powerful integrated Intel UHD Xe G4 graphics and uses a lower-quality TN screen. Both laptops have screens with the same refresh rate, but the superior GPU and screen quality of the HP EliteBook make it a better choice for gaming and 3D applications.

How the HP EliteBook 845 G9 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15" compare to other laptops
"The high-end version of the HP EliteBook 845 G9 with a Ryzen 9 PRO 6950HS, 32GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD packs a lot of power, but is still quiet and cool enough to operate in noise-sensitive environments. Quiet, cool and drawing on a massive 40 watts from the APU at the same time, however, is not possible. The 14-incher only has a single-fan solution and it only just manages to keep an near unthrottled Ryzen 9 in check."
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 is an enduring office notebook with a powerful Ryzen APU. Lenovo's office all-rounder easily handles office and internet applications as well as modest games - the Ryzen 5 5625U APU and 16 GB of RAM make this possible. The CPU and GPU can work at consistently high clock rates. The emission values are okay, but the noise emissions should be lower under medium to full load. The relatively light notebook (approx. 1.6 kg) achieves practical battery runtimes of about 10 to 11 hours."
