For general use, the HP Dragonfly Pro 14" offers excellent battery life, a high-quality screen with touch capability, and a portable design, making it ideal for on-the-go tasks. However, it falls short in gaming and intensive engineering tasks due to its less powerful GPU and CPU compared to the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024). The Legion Pro 5i, on the other hand, is a powerhouse for gaming, 3D rendering, and machine learning with its superior Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU and Intel i7-14700HX processor, but it's heavier, has a shorter battery life, and lacks a touchscreen, which may not be as convenient for everyday use. "I’d say that the HP Dragonfly Pro checks off most of the boxes for this freelancer. It feels nice to use, is zippy and responsive, has great speakers, and even has a relatively sane price. Although it’s an unorthodox choice to pick AMD for this kind of machine, it’s clear that when Ryzen is given a chance to shine, it can kick a lot of butt."

"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
