The HP EliteBook 845 G9 is good for engineering and design, while the Gateway 15.6" is only fair.
The HP EliteBook 845 G9 is considered good for engineering and design use due to its powerful AMD Ryzen processor, Radeon GPU, and a high-quality screen with superior brightness and color coverage, combined with excellent build quality and heat management. On the other hand, the Gateway 15.6" is rated as fair for the same uses because of its less capable Intel i5 processor and Iris Xe graphics, and a screen that is not as bright and has lower color coverage, which may not be as suitable for detailed engineering and design tasks.

The HP EliteBook 845 G9 has a better screen than the Gateway 15.6" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, a laptop with a bright, clear display makes it easier to read text and view content, and both the Gateway and HP EliteBook offer suitable resolutions and panel types for everyday activities, with the HP providing a brighter and sharper image. Engineering and design professionals need accurate color representation, and the HP EliteBook's screen covers a wider range of color gamuts, making it better suited for tasks where color precision is critical. However, neither the Gateway nor the HP EliteBook is optimized for gaming or 3D applications due to lower refresh rates that can't deliver the smooth visuals required for fast-paced action or complex rendering.

How the Gateway 15.6" and the HP EliteBook 845 G9 compare to other laptops
"Some concessions have to be made when shopping for a budget laptop. Walmart's Gateway Ultra Slim laptops succeeds on the affordability front and delivers serviceable specs and good battery life, though it's hard to claim it's the best (or even particularly good) at any particular aspect. Its build quality, especially the touchpad, is mediocre, and its performance is decent but doesn't lead the way. The Gateway does undercut the cost of some competitors and offers ample storage with good connectivity, so it's not to be ignored."
"The high-end version of the HP EliteBook 845 G9 with a Ryzen 9 PRO 6950HS, 32GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD packs a lot of power, but is still quiet and cool enough to operate in noise-sensitive environments. Quiet, cool and drawing on a massive 40 watts from the APU at the same time, however, is not possible. The 14-incher only has a single-fan solution and it only just manages to keep an near unthrottled Ryzen 9 in check."
