For better performance in intensive engineering tasks or if OLED display with higher resolution is a priority, the Dell XPS 13 Plus stands out, but its smaller screen size may limit your workspace. The LG Gram 17 offers a notably larger screen and lighter build for greater portability, along with extended battery life for longer usage away from a power source, but lacks the OLED display and has a lower screen resolution. If your work demands high mobility and a spacious screen, the LG Gram 17 would be suitable; however, for more demanding tasks and richer visuals, the Dell XPS 13 Plus would be preferable, at a higher cost. The Dell XPS 13 Plus has a better screen than the LG Gram 17 for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design.
The Dell XPS 13 Plus likely has a high-resolution display with great brightness and color accuracy that appeals to engineers and designers with its wide color gamuts, ensuring that intricate details and color fidelity are top-notch, though its lower refresh rate diminishes its appeal to gamers. LG's Gram 17, with its larger screen, maintains good resolution and color reproduction for general tasks and design work, but like the Dell, the refresh rate isn't optimized for the fast-paced visuals required in gaming. General users will find either laptop screen adequate for daily tasks, but those interested in gaming would benefit from a laptop that prioritizes a high refresh rate.

The LG Gram 17 and Dell XPS 13 Plus are both only fair for gaming and AI.
The Dell XPS 13 Plus offers a high-resolution OLED display and integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics, which contribute to vibrant visuals and decent gaming performance, but its smaller screen and standard refresh rate may limit gaming immersion. In contrast, the LG Gram 17 provides a larger IPS display for an expansive gaming view, and similar integrated graphics for gaming and 3D tasks, yet also with a standard refresh rate that might not be optimal for fast-paced gaming experiences.

The Dell XPS 13 Plus and LG Gram 17 are both very good for engineering and design.
The Dell XPS 13 Plus excels in engineering and design due to its top-tier processor, ample RAM, and superior OLED screen with high color accuracy, making it excellent for detailed tasks, although its smaller size favors portability over a large workspace. Conversely, the LG Gram 17 offers a good combination of power and larger screen real estate which is beneficial for multitasking and design, but has an IPS display with less color precision compared to the XPS, and while more portable for its screen size, it may not match the Dell in raw performance.

How the Dell XPS 13 Plus and the LG Gram 17 compare to other laptops
"The XPS 13 Plus is powerful, but has its drawbacks. Dell did not only update the processor generation, but also decided to offer two completely different models from now on. The XPS 13 Plus gets the faster Intel Alder Lake-P chips, and the Core i7-1260P in our review unit offers good performance figures. However, the device once again shows the problems of the current Intel CPUs, because the high performance requires a lot of power. This affects the battery runtime as well as temperatures, so the new model (even with the Optimized power profile) is louder than the older model."
"The LG Gram 17 is a light office laptop with a large display and great battery life. The newest incarnation of the Gram 17 can be classified as a model update. LG uses the predecessor's compact, light magnesium case along with an identical port configuration (including 2x Thunderbolt 4) and keyboard. Changes can be found in the hardware. With the Gram 17 (2022), LG offers a light (approx. 1,350 g), mobile work device - and finally with a matte display."
