The Dell XPS 13 Plus is a premium laptop with a high-resolution OLED touchscreen, suited for professional and general use with its lightweight design, robust build quality, and decent general performance. It's not optimal for gaming or 3D work due to its integrated graphics but boasts an all-day battery life. On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion Slim 5, while less expensive, is a gaming-oriented laptop with a dedicated Nvidia graphics card and a high refresh rate screen, although with a lower resolution and no touch capability. It has a heavier build and longer battery life, making it suitable for intensive gaming and engineering tasks, but it's less portable. Choose the Dell if you prioritize portability and display quality for general and professional use; opt for the Lenovo if gaming, engineering tasks, and value for money are your main concerns. The Dell XPS 13 Plus is very good for general use, while the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 is good.
The Dell XPS 13 Plus excels in general use due to its superior screen quality with high resolution OLED display, larger RAM for multitasking, and exceptionally high portability with longer battery life and lighter weight, making it ideal for on-the-go usage. The Lenovo Legion Slim 5, while still good for general use, has a more modest screen and a focus on gaming with a dedicated graphics card, but it trades off with heavier weight and shorter battery life, making it less optimal for frequent mobility.

The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 is good for gaming and AI, while the Dell XPS 13 Plus is only fair.
The Dell XPS 13 Plus offers good screen quality with high pixel density and brightness, which provides clear and vivid images, important for 3D applications but sports an integrated GPU that is less suited for high-end gaming. Conversely, the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 features a powerful dedicated Nvidia GPU and a high screen refresh rate which are critical for smooth gaming performance, though it has a lower pixel density and screen brightness compared to the Dell.

The Dell XPS 13 Plus has a better screen than the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
For general use, the Dell XPS 13 Plus offers a combination of high resolution and brightness that enhances the viewing experience, with a panel type that delivers sharp text and images. In engineering and design, its ability to display a wide range of colors accurately is essential, which the XPS 13 Plus excels at due to its high color gamut coverage, making it excellent in this aspect. However, for gaming and 3D applications where smooth motion is critical, it falls short because it lacks a high refresh rate, which is the primary factor for screen quality in this context, and this is where the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 with a potentially higher refresh rate might be more suitable despite its otherwise good screen characteristics for general use and competent color accuracy for engineering and design.

How the Dell XPS 13 Plus and the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 compare to other laptops
"The XPS 13 Plus is powerful, but has its drawbacks. Dell did not only update the processor generation, but also decided to offer two completely different models from now on. The XPS 13 Plus gets the faster Intel Alder Lake-P chips, and the Core i7-1260P in our review unit offers good performance figures. However, the device once again shows the problems of the current Intel CPUs, because the high performance requires a lot of power. This affects the battery runtime as well as temperatures, so the new model (even with the Optimized power profile) is louder than the older model."
"The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 acknowledges that a gaming laptop doesn’t have to be as thick as possible and can still ensure adequate cooling when the muscles need flexing. To this end, in the Slim 5 Gen 8, it finds a neat balance of refined, trimmed-down design that still lets its internals cruise (even above their max power ratings). Lenovo then added in some high-end build quality with an altogether excellent keyboard that’s useful for both work and play."
