The MSI GP66 Leopard is good for engineering and design, while the Dell Latitude 5431 is only fair.
The Dell Latitude 5431's strengths for engineering and design stem from its capable CPU and ample RAM, along with a high-quality IPS screen suitable for accurate color work, while remaining relatively lightweight for portability. The MSI GP66 Leopard, on the other hand, offers a more powerful CPU and GPU combination for demanding tasks, a superior high-refresh-rate screen for fluid visuals in design simulations, and enhanced speaker quality, albeit at the cost of increased weight and therefore reduced portability.

The MSI GP66 Leopard has a better screen than the Dell Latitude 5431 for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design.
The Dell Latitude 5431 has a fair screen quality appropriate for general tasks due to its adequate resolution and brightness, but its limited color range and lower refresh rate might not satisfy the color accuracy and smoothness required for high-level design work or the immersive experience sought by gamers. On the other hand, the MSI GP66 Leopard offers a vibrant and sharp display suitable for detailed engineering and design tasks with its wider color gamut covering more of the DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB spectra, but its refresh rate, while better than the Dell's, still doesn't meet the top-tier demands of competitive 3D gaming where fluid motion is crucial. Both laptops may struggle in gaming scenarios where high refresh rates are vital for fast-paced action, making them less ideal for gamers despite their suitable performance for other professional uses.

How the Dell Latitude 5431 and the MSI GP66 Leopard compare to other laptops
"The MSI GP66 Leopard is a good budget high-performance gamer. The MSI also does a lot right outside of the pure performance despite it's low price. For example, the adaptive cooling system really surprised us positively, even in Extreme Performance Mode. And the display is not a budget panel either, but at least outshines the competition in terms of brightness. Of course, you also have to accept a few compromises in this price category. These include the Leopard's poor battery runtimes and the less than optimal build quality, which is also noticeable in the more complicated maintenance."
