If you prioritize a more budget-friendly option with decent battery life for general use, the Dell Inspiron 16 5620 is a solid choice, but it won't excel in gaming or intensive tasks. On the other hand, the MSI GP66 Leopard is pricier, but it's well-suited for gaming, 3D work, and engineering tasks due to its more powerful processor and high-end graphics card; however, it's heavier and has less battery life, making it less portable than the Dell. The MSI GP66 Leopard is good for gaming and AI, while the Dell Inspiron 16 5620 is only fair.
The Dell Inspiron 16 5620 offers fair performance in gaming and 3D tasks because it uses an integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU and has a standard screen refresh rate of 60Hz, whereas the MSI GP66 Leopard provides good gaming and 3D performance with its powerful Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU and higher screen refresh rate of 144Hz. While both laptops have capable processors and quality IPS screens, the superior GPU and refresh rate of the MSI model make it better suited for gaming and 3D applications.

The MSI GP66 Leopard and Dell Inspiron 16 5620 are both good for engineering and design, though the MSI GP66 Leopard is somewhat better.
The Dell Inspiron 16 5620, with a less powerful CPU and integrated graphics, offers a quieter working experience and is more lightweight, which makes it suitable for design tasks that are not GPU-intensive and for users who prefer portability. In contrast, the MSI GP66 Leopard sports a higher-end CPU and a powerful discrete GPU, which, along with its superior screen refresh rate, makes it ideal for engineering applications that require more graphical processing power, albeit with reduced portability and a noisier operating environment.

The Dell Inspiron 16 5620 has a better screen than the MSI GP66 Leopard for software development, while the MSI GP66 Leopard has a better screen for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design.
The Dell Inspiron 16 5620's screen offers acceptable resolution and brightness for everyday tasks like browsing and document editing, but it lacks the wider color gamut needed for precise engineering and design work, and its refresh rate is too low for the smooth visuals demanded by gaming and 3D applications. On the other hand, the MSI GP66 Leopard's display delivers sharper visuals and brighter colors suited for both everyday use and professional design tasks due to a better color range coverage, but like the Dell, it falls short in providing the high refresh rates that gaming and 3D rendering benefit from greatly. Both laptops may disappoint avid gamers or 3D creators due to their less than ideal refresh rates, but they cater well to general use and are capable for engineering and design to varying extents.

How the Dell Inspiron 16 5620 and the MSI GP66 Leopard compare to other laptops
"If the world is exciting enough right now, you can do far worse than a solid performer that you know will get the job done. Our review model is as powerful as you'd want an office machine to be unless you're performing specialist tasks and the price point is pretty attractive (unless work will let you have a MacBook Air instead)."
"The MSI GP66 Leopard is a good budget high-performance gamer. The MSI also does a lot right outside of the pure performance despite it's low price. For example, the adaptive cooling system really surprised us positively, even in Extreme Performance Mode. And the display is not a budget panel either, but at least outshines the competition in terms of brightness. Of course, you also have to accept a few compromises in this price category. These include the Leopard's poor battery runtimes and the less than optimal build quality, which is also noticeable in the more complicated maintenance."
