If superior graphical performance and a higher resolution display are priorities for you, the Razer Blade 15 is a strong option; however, it comes at a higher price point and has a shorter battery life. The Dell Alienware m17 R5, on the other hand, offers significant cost savings with good performance, a larger screen, and a longer battery life, but it is heavier, making it less portable. Both have similar storage and memory, and either would suit intensive tasks such as gaming, 3D rendering, or engineering work, but the Razer's higher display quality may benefit creative professionals more. The Dell Alienware m17 R5 has a better screen than the Razer Blade 15 for gaming and AI, while the Razer Blade 15 has a better screen for general use, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, a laptop with a high-resolution display, good overall brightness, and an IPS panel, like on the Dell Alienware m17 R5, offers sharp images and wide viewing angles, which are essential for browsing the web, enjoying multimedia, and handling documents. The Razer Blade 15's very good performance in screen quality for engineering and design can be attributed to its wide color gamut coverage, ensuring accurate color reproduction that professionals in these fields require for tasks like photo editing and CAD work. However, for gaming and 3D applications, the lower refresh rate on both models might detract from the experience as it could lead to less fluid motion and more noticeable lag during fast-paced scenes.

The Dell Alienware m17 R5 offers a robust CPU and ample RAM for smooth general use, along with a larger screen but falls short on portability and has a modest battery life, while the Razer Blade 15 adds superior portability with a lighter build and higher screen resolution, yet meets the same battery expectations, ensuring sharp visuals and ease of use on the go. Both laptops provide good keyboard and speaker quality, but the Dell's larger form factor might affect its portability compared to the sleek and less bulky Razer, which strikes a balance between performance and ease of carrying around.

How the Dell Alienware m17 R5 and the Razer Blade 15 compare to other laptops
"Overall, the all-AMD system in the Alienware m17 R5 is impressive, especially the graphics performance. However, various driver issues and unnecessary inconsistencies prevent us from truly enjoying such a potent gaming machine. In addition to strong 3D performance, we particularly like the build quality, the fairly bright UHD display with high color space coverage, and the fact that the gamer is often quiet when not under load and also rather quieter than some competitors under load."
"The 2022 Blade 15 offers roughly 15 to 25 percent faster graphics performance and 20 percent faster CPU performance over last year's Core i7-11800H and RTX 3080 model. Thankfully, the system doesn't need to run noticeably louder or warmer to achieve faster results, but both power consumption and battery life take a hit. The higher consumption in particular appears to be a trend amongst many 12th gen Core laptops including the Schenker Uniwill Technology GM7AG8P or MSI Vector GP66 when compared to their previous generation counterparts. We're also glad to not see below-average CPU performance which was the case for the 10th gen Core i7-10875H model."
