For a balance of performance and portability with a vibrant OLED display, the ASUS Vivobook S 14 OLED is a strong choice, especially if you're looking for a laptop that can handle engineering tasks and general use well. It offers a more powerful dedicated GPU, which is beneficial for 3D rendering and gaming, and has a higher screen pixel density for crisper visuals, though it's not a touchscreen. However, if you prioritize a touchscreen interface, longer battery life, and a more compact design with a unique 3:2 aspect ratio that's great for productivity, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" is the way to go. It's also lighter and has a more premium build quality, making it exceptionally portable, but keep in mind it has a less powerful integrated GPU, which means it's not as suited for intensive gaming or heavy graphics work. CNET

Lori Grunin | October 2022
"The Surface Laptop 5 remains afloat as a solid machine. It's just not one that stands out in any particular way. Just like the last one. The biggest upgrade were some new components, but they perform in the same range as other laptops with them, and frequently at the bottom of that range. I suspect Microsoft's settings are very conservative to help keep cooling and battery life within reason in the older chassis design."
