The HP Omen 16 and ASUS Vivobook 17 are both good for general use, though the HP Omen 16 is somewhat better.
The ASUS Vivobook 17 has a more basic CPU and less RAM than the HP Omen 16, resulting in lower performance for general use, and its screen quality is less vibrant with lower color coverage, affecting visual tasks, whereas the HP Omen 16 boasts a powerful CPU, more RAM, and a superior screen with higher color accuracy, making it more suitable for demanding applications. Additionally, the Vivobook 17 is lighter and has a larger screen, offering better portability and a more expansive display, but the Omen 16, despite being heavier, compensates with greater raw power and better overall build and speaker quality, appealing to users who prioritize performance over ease of carrying.

The HP Omen 16 is very good for gaming and AI, while the ASUS Vivobook 17 is only fair.
The HP Omen 16 offers superior gaming and 3D experiences with its Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU and high screen refresh rate of 165 Hz which is crucial for fluid motion in fast-paced games, compared to the ASUS Vivobook 17 which has an Intel i3-1220P UHD Graphics and a standard refresh rate of 60 Hz, less adept for high-intensity gaming. Additionally, the HP's higher-tier CPU contributes to better overall performance, whereas the ASUS's lower-spec CPU aligns with its capabilities for more casual use.

How the ASUS Vivobook 17 and the HP Omen 16 compare to other laptops
"The ASUS Vivobook 17 is an affordable 17-inch laptop with passive cooling. On one hand, you get a really quiet and cool work device with a good system performance, many connections, good maintenance options, speakers acceptable for multimedia enjoyment, and a sharp and clear matte FHD IPS display with the Asus VivoBook 17 (F712JA). On the other hand, the USB-C port lacks Power Delivery and DisplayPort, and the display, a higher brightness and better color space coverage."
"The Omen 16 has proven to be a fairly good mid-range gaming laptop with all-around improvements compared to the Omen 15. The high overall performance level across all use cases, the long battery life, and the good FHD display constitute the main advantages of this HP laptop. The main drawbacks are the faulty touchpad (one-off?) and the high latencies that can be observed even after just opening the browser. Furthermore, the useless, preinstalled 30-day trial versions of various software also fall under the category "unnecessary"."
