If you require a larger screen for activities like photo editing, video consumption, or multitasking, the HP Envy 17 with its 17.3-inch display may be the better choice, although it will be heavier and less portable than the ASUS Vivobook 16. On the other hand, the Vivobook's smaller 16-inch screen makes it more portable, and it should be easier to carry around for travel or commuting. The HP's Intel processor may perform better for tasks like video editing, whereas the Ryzen processor in the ASUS is generally well-suited for multitasking and everyday usage. If battery life is a prime concern, the ASUS might have an edge due to its lower power consumption CPU. However, if you plan to use a lot of peripherals or appreciate a built-in optical drive, the HP Envy comes with more ports and an optical drive included. Give Feedback

The HP Envy 17 has a better screen than the ASUS Vivobook 16 for general use, and engineering and design.
The Asus Vivobook 16 offers a decent display that is suitable for everyday tasks and sufficient for most engineering and design work, but its screen may not be as vivid or bright as you might need for those tasks, and it definitely lacks the high refresh rate desired for smooth 3D visualization and gaming. On the other hand, the HP Envy 17 provides a more vibrant and potentially brighter display, which is better for discerning fine details in general usage and critical for accurate color representation in professional engineering and design, but like the Vivobook, it falls short in refresh rate for gaming or high-end 3D work. Therefore, while both laptops have screens that are adequate for general productivity and professional work, neither is optimal for the demands of high-frame-rate gaming or immersive 3D experiences.

The ASUS Vivobook 16 and HP Envy 17 are both good for general use.
The ASUS Vivobook 16, with its AMD Ryzen CPU and Vega graphics, offers ample performance for everyday tasks, 16GB of RAM for multitasking, and a 16-inch IPS screen with good color coverage and brightness, making it suitable for general use. On the other hand, the HP Envy 17 presents a slightly stronger Intel CPU, a larger 17.3-inch touchscreen with greater color accuracy, and more battery capacity, but it is less portable due to its increased size and weight, which could be a deciding factor for users who need to carry their laptop frequently.

The HP Envy 17 and ASUS Vivobook 16 are both only fair for gaming and AI.
The ASUS Vivobook 16 is fair for gaming and 3D tasks as it uses an integrated Ryzen GPU which is moderate for such activities and has a standard 60Hz screen refresh rate, while the HP Envy 17 also offers fair performance with its integrated Iris Xe GPU and the same 60Hz refresh rate, which is not ideal for high-end gaming that prefers higher rates. Both laptops have ample CPU power and good screen quality, but neither is equipped with the advanced GPUs and higher refresh rates that demanding games and 3D applications often benefit from.

How the ASUS Vivobook 16 and the HP Envy 17 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, Yannick Khong | May 2023
"The ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 (2023) is a budget Windows laptop. It's available with various AMD Ryzen 5000 and 7000 U-series CPUs and integrated graphics. You can only get 8GB of RAM; however, there's an empty SO-DIMM slot if you want to upgrade it. It has an FHD+ (1920 x 1200) 16:10 IPS display, a full-size keyboard with a Numpad, a 720p webcam, and Wi-Fi 6E wireless connectivity. Ports include three USB-As, one USB-C, an HDMI, and a headphone jack. The USB-C supports charging but no video output."
"In our test, the HP Envy 17-cr0079ng presents itself as a balanced multimedia laptop. Thanks to its solid CPU performance and dedicated entry-level GeForce, it can also be used for playing video games, as long as the demands aren't too high. Those looking for more can find it in the Dell XPS 17 for example."
