If you're on a tighter budget and mainly need a laptop for everyday tasks like web browsing, office work, and media consumption, the ASUS Vivobook 15 is an economical choice. However, if you require a laptop for more demanding applications such as 3D modeling, machine learning, or gaming, and you value the ability to customize or upgrade components, the Framework Laptop 16 (2023) offers better performance and flexibility at a higher cost. The Framework is also designed for easier repairs and upgrades, which could be beneficial in the long run. Keep in mind, though, that a larger screen and enhanced capabilities often mean reduced portability and potentially shorter battery life compared to more modest, ultraportable options. Give Feedback

NotebookCheck

Sascha Mölck, | April 2022
"The Asus VivoBook 15 is a quiet office notebook with a strong screen. However, the VivoBook 15 still has room for improvement. Office and internet applications as well as simple games do not pose any major challenges for the VivoBook - this is ensured by the built-in combination of Ryzen 7 5700U APU and 16 GB of RAM. Heat and noise emissions are acceptable. But, the laptop has weaknesses that should not be present at this level: lack of keyboard lighting, a slow memory card reader, no fast USB-C port (USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 4) with Power Delivery and DisplayPort. Battery runtimes can only be described as average."

NotebookCheck

Allen Ngo | January 2024
"The trend towards thinner and lighter laptops is made possible by fusing more and more components onto the mainboard. The main drawback to this approach is that it limits repairability as even a small fault may require replacing entire boards. Framework is one of the only manufacturers looking the other way in an attempt to improve end-user customization and servicing. There's no question that the Laptop 16 is more user-friendly to service than any alternative, but this lucrative feature comes at the cost of size and weight as individual components must be easily replaceable."
