The ASUS Vivobook 15 is slightly less expensive, more portable due to its smaller size and lighter weight, and could be a better option for general use with its respectable battery life. On the other hand, the ASUS Vivobook 17 offers a larger screen, more storage, and a slightly larger battery, which could be advantageous for users who need more screen real estate for multitasking or content viewing, and don't mind a bit of extra weight and size for the added features. The ASUS Vivobook 17 has a better screen than the ASUS Vivobook 15 for content creation, and software development.
The ASUS Vivobooks with fair screen quality for general use likely have adequate resolution and brightness, but may not feature the premium panel types that provide superior color accuracy and viewing angles. For engineering and design, their sufficient screen quality suggests they cover a decent range of color gamuts needed for accurate color representation, but may not reach the high standards of professional design laptops. The poor screen quality for gaming and 3D work on these Vivobooks stems from suboptimal refresh rates, which are crucial for smooth visuals, although they may meet the basic threshold for resolution and panel type.

The ASUS Vivobook 17 and ASUS Vivobook 15 are both only fair for engineering and design.
The ASUS Vivobook 15 and Vivobook 17 are both deemed fair for engineering and design use because they are equipped with moderate main processors and RAM, which support various applications although may not handle the most intensive tasks swiftly, and they utilize integrated graphics that are enough for basic design work but not ideal for complex 3D rendering or advanced engineering simulations. Both have good screen quality with respectable color coverage, aiding in detailed design work, but the larger screen of the Vivobook 17 can make for a more comfortable viewing experience at the cost of reduced portability as indicated by its lower portability score compared to the Vivobook 15.

How the ASUS Vivobook 15 and the ASUS Vivobook 17 compare to other laptops
"The Asus VivoBook 15 is a quiet office notebook with a strong screen. However, the VivoBook 15 still has room for improvement. Office and internet applications as well as simple games do not pose any major challenges for the VivoBook - this is ensured by the built-in combination of Ryzen 7 5700U APU and 16 GB of RAM. Heat and noise emissions are acceptable. But, the laptop has weaknesses that should not be present at this level: lack of keyboard lighting, a slow memory card reader, no fast USB-C port (USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 4) with Power Delivery and DisplayPort. Battery runtimes can only be described as average."
"The ASUS Vivobook 17 is an affordable 17-inch laptop with passive cooling. On one hand, you get a really quiet and cool work device with a good system performance, many connections, good maintenance options, speakers acceptable for multimedia enjoyment, and a sharp and clear matte FHD IPS display with the Asus VivoBook 17 (F712JA). On the other hand, the USB-C port lacks Power Delivery and DisplayPort, and the display, a higher brightness and better color space coverage."
