If you are looking for a high-performance laptop primarily for gaming or intensive engineering tasks, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 with its powerful processor and graphics card would be a better fit. However, it is heavier and has a shorter battery life, making it less portable. On the other hand, the ASUS Zenbook 14X offers a more portable solution with a lighter weight and better battery life. It's also less expensive with an OLED display, which is great for general use and media consumption, but it's less suitable for demanding tasks due to its less powerful processor and graphics card. The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 has a better screen than the ASUS Zenbook 14X for gaming and AI, and content creation, while the ASUS Zenbook 14X has a better screen for general use, and engineering and design.
The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 boasts a panel with high resolution and brightness, making it suitable for general use and engineering tasks where detail and accurate color representation are essential, yet its lower refresh rate could detract from the gaming and 3D experiences where smoothness is key. Conversely, the ASUS Zenbook 14X's panel, also with high resolution and brightness, excels in providing vibrant and precise colors for both general use and professional design work, but like the Strix Scar 17, it falls short for gaming and 3D due to a refresh rate that doesn't match the needs of fast-paced visuals. Both laptops would excel in productivity and creative endeavors; however, gaming enthusiasts might find the screen performance does not align with the high-speed graphics typically desired in the latest games and 3D simulations.

How the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 and the ASUS Zenbook 14X compare to other laptops
"Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 laptop review: liquid metal 7 nm AMD Zen 3 is stunning. The raw performance increase is absolutely bonkers if you're upgrading from a laptop on Coffee Lake-H or older. The 45 W Ryzen 9 5900HX is neck-to-neck with the thicker, heavier, and hotter Schenker Ultra 17 running on a desktop-class Core i9-11900K despite their wide TDP differences. The performance-per-watt advantages can make Intel Rocket Lake feel like a last generation platform at times. As for the chassis itself, it's a huge light show with RGB LEDs on almost all sides of the system."
"With the Zenbook 14X, Asus has a 14-incher in its range that is - mostly - a joy to use. First, there is the colorful OLED panel with 3K resolution that displays the sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces. The Zenbook is also at the forefront in terms of workmanship, input devices and connections with 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports and a generous keyboard layout. A pleasure to use, the Zenbook 14X is a solid, very well-built subnotebook that sits well on the table. A runtime of five hours, however, is below average for a high-end subnotebook nowadays. The OLED screensaver causes increased power consumption when in idle mode."
