If performance is a top priority, especially for demanding tasks like 3D rendering, machine learning, or gaming, the ASUS ROG Strix G18 is the better choice with a high-refresh-rate screen and hardware-oriented for such uses. However, it's heavier and has a shorter battery life than the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2, which is more portable and has a longer battery life, making it suitable for on-the-go usage and general productivity. The Surface also offers a touchscreen and a higher RAM capacity, which can be beneficial for multitasking and creative tasks that benefit from direct screen interaction. Both machines have similar storage and are priced similarly, so the decision hinges on whether portability and touchscreen capability or high-end gaming and task-specific performance are more important for your needs. NotebookCheck

Florian Glaser | March 2023
"With the ROG Strix G18, Asus has made an almost consistently good debut in the still quite new 18-inch laptop segment. The base unit case shows a few signs of weakness in the area of stability and is something which has an effect on the perceived quality of the input devices (the chassis tends to rattle a bit). Nevertheless, thanks to generous port features (incl. Thunderbolt 4), a striking design, and extensive lighting (keyboard, LED strip on the front), gamers get a fitting gaming platform."

NotebookCheck

Andreas Osthoff | March 2022
"The new Surface Laptop Studio with its foldable display is supposed to replace the old Surface Book and the overall impression is good after our review. The build quality and the materials are top-notch, the performance utilization of the two components is solid and the device does not show any major flaws in terms of display or speakers, either. The folding mechanism leaves a sold impression as well, but it remains to be seen how it will hold up over the years. The so-called presentation mode is also not ideal since it covers the whole keyboard."
