For demanding engineering or 3D rendering tasks, the ASUS ROG Strix G17, with its higher-end AMD processor, might feel snappier than the MSI Katana 17, which uses an Intel processor. Both having Nvidia RTX 4060 graphics means they are well-suited for gaming and machine learning applications. The ASUS has more battery capacity, which could translate to longer use away from a power supply. The MSI, however, has doubled the RAM which can be beneficial for running multiple applications or large datasets. If you value screen quality, ASUS offers a higher resolution and more vibrant screen. The MSI is slightly lighter, offering better portability. Both run Windows 11 Home, and their keyboards feature RGB lighting, delivering a premium feel. Your choice should reflect your priorities, such as performance for specific tasks, battery life, screen quality, or portability. Give Feedback

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 has a better screen than the MSI Katana 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, and content creation.
When considering the ASUS ROG Strix G17 and the MSI Katana 17 for general use, the ASUS likely offers a higher resolution and brighter display, which enhances everyday activities like browsing the web or watching videos. For engineering and design tasks where color accuracy is crucial, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 probably offers a wider color gamut, providing richer and more precise colors. However, for gaming and 3D applications where motion clarity is key, the MSI Katana 17, despite its lower quality, might still not satisfy the high refresh rate demands of these applications, and the ASUS, despite its superior qualities in other areas, falls short due to its poor refresh rate.

How the ASUS ROG Strix G17 and the MSI Katana 17 compare to other laptops
"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
"The MSI Katana 17 B13V laptop impressed us in its main area of competency - gaming. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 ensures high-performance levels which can compete with the previous generation's RTX 3070 Ti. In addition to the speedy GPU, the MSI comes with a 144 Hz display as well as an RGB keyboard and provides a very good typing experience. Despite the power at hand, the laptop remains comparatively cool."
