If you prioritize high performance for tasks like 3D modeling, machine learning, and gaming, the ASUS ROG Flow X13, with its powerful processor and advanced graphics card, should serve you well, but keep in mind that this comes at a higher price and the device is less portable due to a heavier build. On the other hand, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" is more affordable, offers good performance for general use, a lighter design, and portability, though it may struggle with more intensive engineering and gaming tasks due to its less powerful internals. NotebookCheck

Sebastian Bade | February 2021
"The Asus ROG Flow X13 is not an off-the-shelf convertible. This quickly becomes clear when you take a closer look at the technical specs. The AMD Ryzen 9 5980HS is a state-of-the-art SoC with 8 cores and 16 threads, which also makes the 2-in-1 interesting as a work device. With 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD, gamers are also well taken care of. The dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q fits well into the overall concept and ensures a solid 3D performance. With the eGPU dock, which is equipped with a GeForce RTX 3080, the small convertible transforms into a full-fledged desktop replacement in terms of performance."

CNET

Lori Grunin | October 2022
"The Surface Laptop 5 remains afloat as a solid machine. It's just not one that stands out in any particular way. Just like the last one. The biggest upgrade were some new components, but they perform in the same range as other laptops with them, and frequently at the bottom of that range. I suspect Microsoft's settings are very conservative to help keep cooling and battery life within reason in the older chassis design."
