The Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) is more affordable, has an efficient M2 processor suitable for general use, and offers better portability with a lighter weight and longer battery life, making it ideal for everyday tasks and on-the-go users. For more intensive tasks like gaming, 3D rendering, or machine learning, the HP Omen 17, while pricier and heavier, packs a stronger processor and a high-end RTX 4080 graphics card, along with a larger and faster-refreshing display, but it has a shorter battery life. The Apple MacBook Air 15 has a better screen than the HP Omen 17 for general use, engineering and design, and software development, while the HP Omen 17 has a better screen for gaming and AI.
The Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) excels in screen quality for both general use and engineering/design due to its high-resolution display, excellent brightness, and wide color gamut coverage, which ensures vivid and accurate color reproduction crucial for detail-oriented work. However, its screen falls short for 3D applications as it likely has a lower refresh rate, which is less suitable for the fast-paced visuals required in 3D environments. The HP Omen 17, while also featuring a high-quality display for general use and satisfactory color accuracy for engineering/design tasks, might not offer the superior refresh rate needed for optimal gaming and 3D rendering, despite its gaming-oriented branding.

How the Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) and the HP Omen 17 compare to other laptops
"The Apple MacBook Air 15 is boringly good. The new MacBook Air 15 is a very good, but also boring device, because apart from the larger screen and the higher price, there are no differences compared to the smaller MacBook Air M2 from last year. No new processor, no additional ports, just the usual basic hardware - but the overall package is extremely good and it simply works. Above all, the lack of fans is an aspect that should not be underestimated in everyday use. In our opinion, the Air could be a lot better, but Apple goes easy on itself here."
"The HP Omen 17 (2022) gaming laptop has a stylish case and hardware with lots of potential. The HP Omen 17 is a fairly unobtrusive gaming laptop. A material combination of plastic and metal gives the case a high stability and a quality surface feel. The unspectacular design is pleasing and is hardly indicative of the laptop's high performance potential. The Intel Core i7-12700H in particular is able to perform well once again. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is also strong in the gaming notebook. Demanding games run smoothly in Full HD resolution. The HP Omen 17 is a good gaming laptop that delivers partly excellent performance. But even at this performance level, cheaper alternatives are available."
