The Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) offers a lightweight design and fanless operation for quiet use, which may appeal to users who prioritize portability and a silent work environment. It runs MacOS, has solid general-use performance, and boasts impressive screen quality with high color accuracy, but it has less storage and lower performance in more demanding tasks like 3D rendering or engineering software compared to the Dell XPS 15. The Dell XPS 15, on the other hand, offers a Windows platform with more storage, higher RAM, and better performance for intensive tasks, but it is heavier and has a shorter battery life, making it less ideal for extended use on the go. The Apple MacBook Air 15 has a better screen than the Dell XPS 15 for general use, AI, and engineering and design, while the Dell XPS 15 has a better screen for software development.
The MacBook Air's high resolution and brightness make it excellent for general use, ensuring crisp text and vibrant display, while its strong color gamut coverage benefits engineers and designers needing color accuracy. On the other hand, the Dell XPS 15's good screen characteristics meet the needs of general use and design work but falls short for gaming and 3D due to a lower refresh rate, which is crucial for smooth motion and fast-paced visuals. Both laptops lack higher refresh rates needed for optimal 3D rendering, which could detract from a fully immersive experience in applications demanding high frame rates.

How the Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) and the Dell XPS 15 compare to other laptops
"The Apple MacBook Air 15 is boringly good. The new MacBook Air 15 is a very good, but also boring device, because apart from the larger screen and the higher price, there are no differences compared to the smaller MacBook Air M2 from last year. No new processor, no additional ports, just the usual basic hardware - but the overall package is extremely good and it simply works. Above all, the lack of fans is an aspect that should not be underestimated in everyday use. In our opinion, the Air could be a lot better, but Apple goes easy on itself here."
"The 2023 Dell XPS 15 is more or less exactly what you'd expect from the company flagship. Its fresh components deliver measurably superior power and longevity, while the machine's premium build and design remain intact. It may not be overly exciting, but XPS loyalists and upgraders should be more than happy."
