The Acer Swift X (2022) generally costs more and offers better performance with its Intel i7 processor and Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU, making it suitable for intensive tasks like engineering, 3D rendering, and machine learning. With more storage and RAM, a higher resolution screen, and solid build, it could handle gaming as well. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 is less expensive, lighter, and more portable with a touch screen and a higher Portability Score; however, it has a less powerful Intel i5 processor with integrated graphics, less storage and RAM, making it better suited for general use and not the more demanding tasks the Acer could manage. The Acer Swift X (2022) is good for engineering and design, while the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 is only fair.
The Acer Swift X (2022) is well-suited for engineering and design because it comes with a robust CPU and GPU, increased RAM for smooth multitasking, and a high-quality screen that displays vivid colors and sharp details. In contrast, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3, while more portable due to its smaller size and weight, has less powerful CPU and GPU capabilities and lower RAM, which may slow down intensive tasks, and its screen offers a lower resolution and color coverage, making it less ideal for detail-oriented design work.

The Acer Swift X has a better screen than the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 for general use, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
When considering screen quality for general use, both the Acer Swift X and the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 offer pleasing visuals due to their high-resolution panels and brightness levels, ensuring crisp and clear images for everyday tasks. For engineering and design, the importance of color accuracy comes into play, and both laptops provide screens that cover a broad spectrum of colors, allowing for precise work in applications requiring color fidelity, although they might not cover professional color spaces entirely. However, for gaming and 3D, the lower refresh rates on both laptops may lead to less fluid motion and responsiveness, which are crucial for these activities, demonstrating a less-than-ideal experience compared to laptops with high refresh rate displays.

How the Acer Swift X (2022) and the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 compare to other laptops
"The Swift X is an Acer for entry-level gaming. With the entry-level graphics chip, our Acer not only beats every single current AMD and Intel iGPU, but also Intel's dGPU Iris Xe Max. However, despite being a GDDR6 version, the GTX does not match the expectations set by its own counterparts from our database. This may be a result of the single fan, which only produces moderate noise levels under load. The performance level of the thin and light 1.4 kg (~3.09 lbs) 14-inch laptop is impressive nonetheless."
"When it comes to affordably priced laptops, the numbers after the dollar sign are crucially important—more so than in any other price category. By increasing the starting price of its Laptop Go line by $200 and not changing much else, Microsoft irrevocably altered the calculus surrounding the decision of whether to buy the Surface Laptop Go 3. Sure, it has a newer processor and longer battery life, but don’t think for a second you’re not paying dearly for that extra RAM and SSD capacity at that new price."
