The Acer Swift X (2022) is more affordable and offers solid performance for general use and lighter engineering tasks with its Intel i7 processor and Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics; its higher-resolution screen is suitable for detailed work, and with about 10 hours of battery life and a weight of around 3 pounds, it's quite portable. In contrast, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 is more expensive but delivers superior performance suitable for intensive 3D, machine learning, and gaming due to a more powerful Intel i9 processor and Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti graphics, although it has about half the battery life and weighs more at around 5 pounds, making it less portable. The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 is very good for engineering and design, while the Acer Swift X (2022) is good.
The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 has a higher-end CPU and GPU, which makes it very good for engineering and design tasks requiring substantial computational power and graphics processing; however, it suffers in portability compared to the lighter and thinner Acer Swift X, which still delivers good performance with a capable CPU and GPU, but less so than the ASUS, particularly in highly demanding applications. Additionally, the Acer offers a higher quality display, which benefits design work, while the ASUS leads in aspects non-critical for engineering such as speaker quality and has an overall design that might be more appealing to gamers.

If you prioritize a laptop for everyday activities like browsing, watching videos, or working with documents, both the Acer Swift X and ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 offer sharp, bright displays with ample resolution. For work in engineering and design where color accuracy is crucial, both laptops cover a wide color spectrum, making them suitable for professional editing and rendering. However, for gaming or working with 3D applications that benefit from smoother visuals, neither model excels because their screens have lower refresh rates, which can result in less fluid motion compared to laptops with higher refresh rates.

How the Acer Swift X (2022) and the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 compare to other laptops
"The Swift X is an Acer for entry-level gaming. With the entry-level graphics chip, our Acer not only beats every single current AMD and Intel iGPU, but also Intel's dGPU Iris Xe Max. However, despite being a GDDR6 version, the GTX does not match the expectations set by its own counterparts from our database. This may be a result of the single fan, which only produces moderate noise levels under load. The performance level of the thin and light 1.4 kg (~3.09 lbs) 14-inch laptop is impressive nonetheless."
"Asus continues to refine the ROG Strix Scar lineup with new upgrades. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 offers almost everything you would expect from a gaming laptop at this price. The build quality is great, connectivity options are decent, and there is enough scope for internal upgrades as well. Asus reverts to membrane switches for the keyboard — though not as "clickety" as the opto-mechanical ones we saw with last year's model, they still make for a decent typing and gaming experience. The lack of biometrics in any form is a downer."
