If you prioritize a larger screen and faster refresh rates for smooth visuals in gaming and want a more premium build, the Gigabyte Aorus 17H is a good option, although it is more expensive and has slightly lower battery life. However, if you prefer a balance of cost and performance with a higher resolution display, better color coverage for creative work, and a more portable design, the Acer Predator Helios 16 may be the better choice, despite a lower refresh rate and slightly reduced performance in intensive tasks compared to the Gigabyte Aorus 17H. Both laptops are well-suited for engineering, 3D, machine learning, and intensive gaming, but the Aorus might offer an edge in performance while the Helios provides better display quality for creative tasks. The Acer Predator Helios 16 has a better screen than the Gigabyte Aorus 17H for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
For general use, the Acer Predator Helios 16 excels due to its high-resolution display and brightness, making it easy to view in various lighting conditions, while the Gigabyte Aorus 17H also offers a clear and bright display, but with slightly less resolution. In engineering and design, the Acer stands out with a wider color gamut that accurately represents a broader range of colors, which is essential for detailed and color-sensitive work, whereas the Gigabyte, while still good, offers a bit less color accuracy. However, for gaming and 3D, both the Acer and Gigabyte fall short because of their lower refresh rates which can lead to less smooth visuals during fast-paced scenes, even though their resolutions and panel types are sufficient.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers Acer Predator Helios 16 to be very good for general use, while the Gigabyte Aorus 17H is good.
The Acer Predator Helios 16's higher screen resolution and slightly better portability with its lower weight make it suitable for general use, while the Gigabyte Aorus 17H compensates with a larger screen and robust internals, despite its heavier weight and lower resolution, still ensuring high performance for general tasks. Both laptops offer substantial processing power, ample RAM, and quality IPS panels; however, battery life is moderate and they are bulky compared to ultra-portables, with the Aorus having a slight edge in battery capacity but falling behind on portability due to its larger size and weight.

How the Acer Predator Helios 16 and the Gigabyte Aorus 17H compare to other laptops
"The Predator Helios 16 stacks up well against its closest competition in benchmark comparisons. The Acer Predator Helios 16 isn't perfect. It's bulky, its lid feels flimsy and some of its keys are just too damned small – but none of its problems are fatal, and it shines where it counts. The powerful graphics and processor combo are spot on for this price point, the fans stop it getting hot under pressure, and the display is as good as you’ll find under $2,500. It's simply one of the best laptops to play demanding games on."
"Overall though, it’s *lots of swearing* fast, seriously. For work, rendering, gaming, it doesn’t matter, this is a true weapon of performance that’s going to run rings around most high-end desktop systems. If you absolutely have to game at ultra-high refresh rates on the go (but within thinking distance of a plug socket), this is the ticket. I can’t see such an extreme being that appealing to everyone, but if you take your gaming seriously, or even professionally, there’s nothing else out there that comes close that you can still fit in your backpack and travel with."
