If you prioritize gaming performance and don't mind a heavier laptop, the Acer Nitro 5 17 with its powerful graphics is a stronger choice. However, if portability and battery life are more important for you, and you don't need as much power for intensive tasks, the lighter ASUS Zenbook Duo 14 with its extended battery life and dual-screen feature may be the better option. Keep in mind, the Acer is less expensive but also bulkier and with shorter battery life, while the ASUS, costing slightly more, is more portable with touch capabilities but not as suitable for heavy gaming or 3D tasks. The Acer Nitro 5 17 is good for gaming and AI, while the ASUS Zenbook Duo 14 is only fair.
The Acer Nitro 5 17 is superior for gaming and 3D work because it has a high-end Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU and a high screen refresh rate, which are crucial for gaming performance and smooth visuals. In contrast, the ASUS Zenbook Duo 14 uses an Intel i7-1195G7 Iris Xe, which is less powerful for gaming, and it has a lower screen refresh rate, making it less optimal for fast-paced gaming and 3D applications.

The Acer Nitro 5 17 is very good for engineering and design, while the ASUS Zenbook Duo 14 is only fair.
The Acer Nitro 5 17, with its AMD Ryzen CPU and Nvidia RTX GPU, excels in engineering and design tasks that benefit from higher-end performance components, making it very good for those purposes, although it is heavier and has slightly lower screen quality. The ASUS Zenbook Duo 14, while still offering good performance through its Intel CPU and Iris Xe graphics, is more portable and has a better screen contrast, but comes with less RAM and storage, which might limit its performance in more demanding engineering and design applications.

How the Acer Nitro 5 17 and the ASUS Zenbook Duo 14 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Nitro 5 17 is a solid mid-range gamer. The Nitro 5 does not belong to the top group of RTX 3070 notebooks: Compared with the RTX 3070 notebooks tested so far, the computer delivers below-average frame rates - this is due to the 100-watt TGP. The GPU performance can be increased a bit with a firmware update. The device scores with a high level of CPU performance. Throttling is not a concern. CPU and GPU can produce their performance constantly. The laptop heats up moderately under load. The noise development is on the usual class level."
"The Asus ZenBook Duo's second screen is like the Apple Touch Bar, but better. Most would agree that having two screens instead of one can really boost productivity and the ZenBook Duo is no different in this regard. It's tough going back to just one screen after becoming accustomed to spacious dual-screen setups. For a laptop form factor, however, users will have to accept some compromises. Firstly, weight is the most obvious drawback as the system is several hundred grams heavier than a regular ZenBook 14. Additionally, colors on the second screen will not be as vivid as the main display."
