The Acer Nitro 17 offers a balance of performance and value, suitable for general use and some gaming or engineering tasks with its mid-range price and decent specs. It's more portable than the MSI, with a smaller screen and lighter weight, making it a better choice if you need to carry your laptop around frequently. However, its battery life is shorter, and it lacks the high-end display and performance features of the MSI. On the other hand, the MSI Raider 18 HX is a powerhouse designed for intense tasks like gaming, 3D rendering, and machine learning, thanks to its top-tier processor and graphics card. The larger, higher-resolution touchscreen with superior color accuracy and brightness is ideal for professionals who demand the best visual experience. It also has a more robust build and better thermal management, which is crucial for sustained high performance. The downside is its premium price, heavier build, and poorer portability, which might not be ideal if you're often on the move. Choose the Acer for a blend of performance and portability at a reasonable price, or opt for the MSI if you prioritize top-of-the-line performance and display quality for stationary, intensive tasks and budget isn't a concern. PCMag

Mark Knapp | October 2023
"The Acer Nitro 17 isn't an exceptional gaming laptop; it's kind of chunky even among 17.3-inch notebooks, with a lackluster keyboard, and it doesn't outperform comparably priced machines. But there's a lot to like about it, including a good array of ports, a screen that's sharp and bright for work and play alike, and battery life that soundly beats the competition. All this comes at an affordable price. If size and weight aren't big concerns, you'll find the Nitro 17 a dependable big-screen gaming rig. If you crave higher quality, consider a slight step down or up in screen size with the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 or Alienware m18 respectively."
