For general use, the Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a budget-friendly option with a large 17.3-inch screen, ample storage, and decent performance for everyday tasks, though it's less portable due to its size and weight. In contrast, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) is pricier but delivers superior performance for gaming, 3D rendering, and machine learning with its powerful i7 processor and RTX 4070 GPU, making it suitable for intensive engineering tasks. It also has a higher resolution display with a faster refresh rate, better color accuracy, and a more ergonomic screen aspect ratio, which is great for detailed work and gaming. However, it's heavier and has a shorter battery life compared to the Acer. If you prioritize portability and battery life for everyday tasks, the Acer is a solid choice, but for high-performance demands and a better display, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i is the way to go. NotebookCheck

Marcus Schwarten | March 2021
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."

PCMag

Brian Westover | August 2023
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
