The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a larger screen and comes with a numeric keypad, making it suitable for tasks like data entry, but it's heavier and not as portable as the ASUS Zenbook 14X, which is lighter and thus easier to carry around. The Zenbook also has a better screen with high resolution, which is great for creative work or watching movies. It has a more powerful processor and double the RAM of the Aspire 5, making it more efficient for demanding tasks like 3D work, machine learning, or engineering software. However, it has a slightly lower battery life compared to the Aspire 5. Both laptops come with ample storage and similar price points, so your choice should be based on whether portability, screen quality, and performance (ASUS Zenbook 14X) or screen size and slightly longer battery usage (Acer Aspire 5 17) are more important for your needs. The ASUS Zenbook 14X has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the ASUS Zenbook 14X likely offers a sharper image and more vibrant colors due to its higher resolution and brighter display compared to the Acer Aspire 5 17, which may have a more average display suitable for everyday tasks. Engineering and design work benefits greatly from the ASUS Zenbook 14X's wider color gamuts, providing more accurate color representation, whereas the Acer may have more limited color accuracy, affecting professional design work. However, for gaming and 3D applications, neither laptop's screens are ideal as they lack high refresh rates that deliver smoother motion, a feature critical for fast-paced visuals in gaming.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the ASUS Zenbook 14X compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"With the Zenbook 14X, Asus has a 14-incher in its range that is - mostly - a joy to use. First, there is the colorful OLED panel with 3K resolution that displays the sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces. The Zenbook is also at the forefront in terms of workmanship, input devices and connections with 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports and a generous keyboard layout. A pleasure to use, the Zenbook 14X is a solid, very well-built subnotebook that sits well on the table. A runtime of five hours, however, is below average for a high-end subnotebook nowadays. The OLED screensaver causes increased power consumption when in idle mode."
