The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a larger screen and longer battery life, which could be beneficial for those who prioritize display size and not having to charge frequently. However, the ASUS Vivobook 16, while having a slightly smaller screen, provides more storage and memory, which can result in smoother multitasking and better performance for demanding applications. Both feature similar processors and integrated graphics, but the ASUS may handle heavier workloads more effectively due to the extra memory and faster processor. For better portability, the ASUS is also lighter. If price is a primary concern, note that the Acer tends to be a bit more expensive. The choice ultimately depends on whether screen size and battery life or storage, memory, and performance are more important for your needs. Give Feedback

The ASUS Vivobook 16 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, engineering and design, and software development.
For general use, both the Acer Aspire 5 17 and ASUS Vivobook 16 offer adequate screen clarity and brightness, but they may not have the high resolutions or exceptional panel types found on higher-end models. Their color gamut coverage may be sufficient for casual engineering and design tasks, but professionals requiring accurate color representation might find them lacking. When it comes to gaming and 3D applications, these laptops may disappoint due to their lower refresh rates, which could lead to less fluid motion and a less immersive experience.

The ASUS Vivobook 16 and Acer Aspire 5 17 are both good for general use.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a solid balance for general use with its capable Intel CPU, sufficient RAM, and a large IPS screen with good resolution, but its larger size and average battery life make it less portable. In contrast, the ASUS Vivobook 16 provides stronger performance with its AMD CPU, more RAM, higher screen resolution with a more practical aspect ratio, and similar screen technology, but also falls short on battery life and is moderately portable due to its size.

The ASUS Vivobook 16 and Acer Aspire 5 17 are both only fair for gaming and AI.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 is suitable for casual gaming and 3D applications with its integrated Iris Xe graphics but may not handle intense graphics smoothly due to its standard screen refresh rate of 60Hz. The ASUS Vivobook 16, with its Ryzen 7 Vega 8 GPU and the same 60Hz screen refresh rate, offers decent performance for light gaming and 3D tasks, but it won't be ideal for fast-paced games where higher refresh rates are beneficial.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers ASUS Vivobook 16 to be good for engineering and design, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is only fair.
The ASUS Vivobook 16 is likely better for engineering and design because it has double the RAM of the Acer Aspire 5 17, which can handle more demanding applications, and it comes with a higher-resolution screen that offers better screen color accuracy and contrast, factors that are crucial for design work. While the Acer does have a larger screen and longer battery life, the ASUS's more powerful AMD processor and integrated graphics provide better performance suitable for engineering tasks despite having a shorter battery life and being less portable.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the ASUS Vivobook 16 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, Yannick Khong | May 2023
"The ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 (2023) is a budget Windows laptop. It's available with various AMD Ryzen 5000 and 7000 U-series CPUs and integrated graphics. You can only get 8GB of RAM; however, there's an empty SO-DIMM slot if you want to upgrade it. It has an FHD+ (1920 x 1200) 16:10 IPS display, a full-size keyboard with a Numpad, a 720p webcam, and Wi-Fi 6E wireless connectivity. Ports include three USB-As, one USB-C, an HDMI, and a headphone jack. The USB-C supports charging but no video output."
