The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers more storage out of the box, a numeric keypad, and might save you a bit of money; however, its larger size makes it less portable. The Apple MacBook Air is more lightweight, has a better battery life, superior build quality, and operates silently without a fan. It delivers stronger performance for general use, 3D/machine learning tasks, and engineering software, but comes with less storage and a higher price. Choose the Acer if you need more storage and a larger screen on a budget. Opt for the MacBook Air if portability, battery life, and overall performance are top priorities. Give Feedback

The Apple MacBook Air has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers sufficient resolution and brightness suitable for everyday tasks and engineering purposes, but its refresh rate isn't high enough for smooth 3D applications, impacting gaming experiences negatively. The Apple MacBook Air, with a higher resolution and brightness, along with a wide color gamut, provides crisp, vibrant visuals for both general computing and design-related work, ensuring accurate color representation which is crucial in professional creative environments. However, like the Acer, it falls short for 3D applications due to a lower refresh rate which can't deliver the seamless motion required for high-end gaming or specialized 3D modeling tasks.

The Apple MacBook Air (2022) and Acer Aspire 5 17 are both only fair for gaming and AI.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a fair gaming experience primarily because it has a sufficient integrated GPU and a standard refresh rate screen, which are appropriate for casual gaming; however, its gaming capabilities are limited by the GPU's average performance for demanding titles. On the other hand, the Apple MacBook Air (2022) provides fair 3D capabilities with its more powerful integrated GPU but is less suitable for gaming due to the limited availability of popular game titles for macOS and the same standard screen refresh rate.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the Apple MacBook Air (2022) compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"The Apple MacBook Air M2 Entry is a very good, but too expensive daily MacBook. The new MacBook Air M2 is undoubtedly once again a very good mobile companion, but we are still a little bit disappointed on a very high level, which is definitely connected with the increased price point. The new chassis is extremely slim and the front edge is no problem during typing, but the bezels are pretty wide for a modern device and in addition with the vertical space required for the notch, the new Air has larger footprint than some Windows rivals."
