The Acer Aspire 5 17 is significantly less expensive and provides good value for general use with adequate performance for everyday tasks, longer battery life, and a larger screen, making it suitable for tasks like web browsing, document editing, or streaming. However, it lacks the higher performance of the Acer Predator Helios 16, which has double the storage and RAM, a much more powerful processor and graphics card, and a high refresh rate screen with better resolution and color accuracy, catering to gaming, 3D rendering, machine learning, and intensive engineering work, at a notably higher price point and with reduced battery life. The Acer Predator Helios 16 is very good for general use, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is good.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 is suitable for general use because it offers a balance between an efficient CPU for daily tasks, a large screen with good color accuracy, and it's lighter than many comparables, making it more portable while granting a decent battery life. Conversely, the Acer Predator Helios 16, although heavier and with slightly shorter battery life, excels in performance due to a more powerful CPU and superior GPU, and features a higher resolution and brighter screen, catering to users requiring more intensive computing and better visual quality.

The Acer Predator Helios 16 is very good for engineering and design, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is only fair.
The Acer Aspire 5 17, with its modest CPU, RAM, and integrated graphics, provides acceptable performance for engineering and design but falls short in multitasking and complex tasks compared to the Acer Predator Helios 16, which boasts a high-end CPU, doubled RAM, and a powerful discrete GPU suitable for demanding engineering applications, along with a higher-resolution screen that better presents detailed work, although this results in reduced portability and potentially more operating noise.

The Acer Predator Helios 16 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
If you prioritize a pleasant viewing experience for everyday tasks and don't mind investing more, the Acer Predator Helios 16 is desirable due to its superior panel quality, higher resolution, and brightness compared to the Acer Aspire 5 17. For engineering and design work where color accuracy matters, the Predator Helios 16 again stands out due to its better coverage of professional color gamuts. However, for gaming and 3D applications where fluid motion is key, neither laptop excels as they lack the high refresh rates required for optimal performance in these areas.

"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"The Predator Helios 16 stacks up well against its closest competition in benchmark comparisons. The Acer Predator Helios 16 isn't perfect. It's bulky, its lid feels flimsy and some of its keys are just too damned small – but none of its problems are fatal, and it shines where it counts. The powerful graphics and processor combo are spot on for this price point, the fans stop it getting hot under pressure, and the display is as good as you’ll find under $2,500. It's simply one of the best laptops to play demanding games on."
