If you are mindful of spending and primarily use your laptop for everyday tasks like browsing, office applications, and media consumption, the Acer Aspire 5 is a cost-effective choice with satisfactory performance for those needs. However, if you're an avid gamer, into video editing, or work with demanding 3D or engineering software, investing more in the ASUS ROG Strix G17 will give you significantly better performance in these areas. Its high-powered components can manage intensive tasks but with the downside of being less portable and having shorter battery life compared to the lighter, more battery-friendly Acer Aspire 5. The ASUS ROG Strix G17 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 15 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The Acer Aspire 5 15 offers a balance between resolution and brightness that's adequate for everyday tasks like browsing and document editing, but it likely lacks the color accuracy and wider color gamuts needed for precision in engineering and design tasks. On the other hand, the ASUS ROG Strix G17, with its superior color reproduction and higher resolution, caters well to those demanding fidelity in visual work, such as engineering and design applications; however, its poor refresh rate hampers performance in fast-paced gaming and 3D modeling, which rely heavily on smooth motion and quick screen updates. While both seem limited for gaming and 3D, the ASUS shines in professional creative environments, whereas the Acer meets general usage needs at a possibly more affordable point.

How the Acer Aspire 5 15 and the ASUS ROG Strix G17 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 15 is a good value office laptop with reasonable battery life. The combination of slim exterior, relatively low weight (approx. 1.7 kg) and 8 hour real-life battery runtime makes the Acer Aspire a truly mobile laptop. The modest Tiger Lake processor supports this area and simultaneously ensures an affordable price point. The Aspire produces little noise and stays cool. The screen (FHD, IPS) might not win any prizes but is entirely appropriate for the price."
"The Asus ROG Strix G17 is an attractive but unbalanced gaming laptop. Its potent AMD Ryzen 9 processor excels in 1080p gaming, but playing at 1440p leaves the middling GeForce RTX 4060 GPU shouldering most of the burden. The display is exceptionally colorful, which is handy for content creators, but since this is a gaming laptop it would be better served with improved HDR capabilities. If battery life isn't a priority, the Strix G17 could serve as a designer by day and a gamer by night."
