The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is a budget-friendly option with an Intel i3 processor, making it suitable for general use and light tasks. It's less expensive, but this comes with tradeoffs in performance and storage capacity compared to the HP Dragonfly Pro 14, which sports a powerful AMD Ryzen 7 processor that's better suited for demanding tasks like 3D rendering or engineering software. The HP is more expensive but offers more RAM and storage, resulting in a better overall performance. Both have similar battery life and screens, but the HP's higher performance specs make it more suitable for intensive tasks, while the Acer offers savings for those with basic computing needs. The HP Dragonfly Pro 14" has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 offers an adequate display for everyday tasks with decent resolution and brightness, but it lacks the high color accuracy and wider color gamuts needed for precision in engineering and design. The HP Dragonfly Pro 14" steps up with a brighter, sharper screen that provides more accurate color representation, which is essential for professionals in the engineering and design fields who rely on color fidelity. However, both laptops fall short for gaming and 3D applications as they don't have the high refresh rates needed for smooth visuals, although their resolution and type of panel provide a satisfactory visual experience for less demanding scenarios.

Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | November 2023
"The Acer Aspire 3 Spin 14 is okay for school use. It feels reasonably well-built, and its compact design makes it easy to carry around. The battery lasts around seven hours of light use, so you only have to plug it in for a short time to get through a typical school day. The overall user experience is so-so; the display looks sharp but dim, and the touchpad is fairly responsive, albeit small."
"I’d say that the HP Dragonfly Pro checks off most of the boxes for this freelancer. It feels nice to use, is zippy and responsive, has great speakers, and even has a relatively sane price. Although it’s an unorthodox choice to pick AMD for this kind of machine, it’s clear that when Ryzen is given a chance to shine, it can kick a lot of butt."
