When choosing between the Acer Aspire 3 15 and the Dell XPS 15, consider your priorities. The Acer is more budget-friendly and lighter, making it more portable, but it has less storage, a less powerful processor, and a lower-quality GPU, making it suitable for general tasks but not high-end gaming or intensive engineering work. The Dell XPS 15 offers a higher resolution screen with a better aspect ratio for productivity, significantly increased storage capacity, more RAM, and a more powerful CPU and GPU combo, with a larger battery capacity. It's ideal for demanding tasks, such as 3D rendering, machine learning, and engineering software, but this comes with a higher price and slightly more weight. Both have IPS displays and are not capable of touch input or high refresh rates, and while the Acer may have a quieter fan, the Dell has superior keyboard quality and performance scores. The Dell XPS 15 is only fair for gaming and AI, while the Acer Aspire 3 15 is poor.
The Dell XPS 15 offers better gaming and 3D capabilities partly because it comes with a more powerful Intel Arc A370M graphics card when compared to the Acer Aspire 3 15's AMD Radeon 610M, and it also has a screen with higher pixel density for sharper images although both laptops have the same screen refresh rate. Additionally, the higher-quality CPU in the Dell XPS 15 supports more demanding games and 3D applications than the Acer Aspire 3 15's CPU, which may not handle intensive tasks as effectively.

Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and Yannick Khong | March 2023
"The Acer Aspire 3 is okay for school use. It feels reasonably well-built, and it's easy to carry around. The display looks decently sharp and provides plenty of space for multitasking, but it doesn't get bright enough to combat glare. Its Intel Core i3-N305 CPU and integrated graphics can only handle simple tasks, like text processing, web browsing, and video playback, so it isn't ideal for students in more technical fields like 3D graphics. Unfortunately, the battery lasts only around six to seven hours of light use."
"The 2023 Dell XPS 15 is more or less exactly what you'd expect from the company flagship. Its fresh components deliver measurably superior power and longevity, while the machine's premium build and design remain intact. It may not be overly exciting, but XPS loyalists and upgraders should be more than happy."
